Step-by-Step Installation Process
1. Prepare the Area
- Remove all non-essential equipment from the elevator pit.
- If equipment cannot be removed, cover it securely with masking tape and plastic sheeting to protect it from overspray or cleaning materials.
2. Clean and Degrease the Surfaces
- Thoroughly clean the concrete surfaces to be treated.
- Use an appropriate degreaser to remove any oils, grime, or dirt.
- After degreasing, rinse the surfaces thoroughly to remove any remaining residues. Ensure the area is dry before applying HLQ-125.
3. Apply HLQ-125
- Use a low-pressure sprayer equipped with a 0.5 gallon-per-minute (gpm) spray tip for even application.
Application Process:
- First Coat: Apply a light mist to the surface to break surface tension and allow the product to penetrate effectively.
- Subsequent Coats: After the first coat is dry to the touch, apply additional coats back-to-back.
- Avoid excessive product rundown. Ensure the product does not run more than 2 inches after each application.
- Continue applying coats until the surface remains dark but not wet or shiny for more than 20 minutes.
4. Monitor the Pit
- After application, monitor the treated area for at least 4 hours to ensure proper absorption and performance.
5. Address Active Leaks or Cracks
- For any visible active leaks or cracks, apply an appropriate repair method:
- Urethane foam for leaks.
- Epoxy injection for structural cracks.
6. Repair Spalls and Voids
- Once all surfaces are waterproof, repair any spalls or voids in the concrete using standard repair mortar.
7. (Optional) Treat Cold Joints
- If necessary, treat cold joints by:
- Cutting a square groove of 3/8″ x 3/8″.
- Sealing the groove with hydraulic cement to prevent water infiltration.
8. Final Steps
- If desired, surfaces treated with HLQ-125 can be painted to improve light reflectance and aesthetics.
