DES PLAINES, IL – In the heart of Cook County, Des Plaines stands as a family-oriented town filled with historic city homes and attractions such as the Koehnline Museum of Art, Lake Opeka, and Mystic Waters Family Aquatic Center. With the combined effort of Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Boldt Construction, and SINAK, the Aurora Healthcare facility was delivered weeks ahead of schedule and under budget with an estimated labor cost savings of more than $100,000. SINAK VC-5 contributed by cutting more than 35 days off the construction schedule. The new building is part of a multiphase building project that will see multiple clinics opening across the state of Illinois. Once constructed, the buildings will offer much needed outpatient medical care to the residents of Illinois.

During the construction phase, when it came time to pour the roof deck and install the moisture sensitive roofing system, the roofing contractor demanded 45 days of uninterrupted dry weather prior to installation. As we all know, unless you are building in a very arid climate this requirement to completely avoid inclement weather was all but impossible, especially this time of year in Des Plaines. This requirement put the entire project schedule at risk and Boldt knew they had to do something about it.

For more than 15 years Boldt Construction has relied on SINAK products on a variety of large-scale projects due to their consistently high performance and ability to speed up the construction schedule. Boldt submitted a request for approval to implement SINAK VC-5, knowing it would drastically reduce the time required for the roof to be installed. Boldt knew that the roof system could then be installed just 7 days after the concrete was placed. Additionally, SINAK would warrant the entire Carlisle roofing system for 20 years against any failures due to moisture, vapor, alkalinity, or hydrostatic pressure.

Beyond the mere factor of eliminating moisture related roofing failures, additional benefits such as eliminating cracks on the upper decks, elimination of slab curl, and the low product cost all contributed to the GC’s continued use of SINAK products. With the help of SINAK’s ultra-environmentally friendly products, Aurora Healthcare was able not only save weeks on the construction schedule, but were also able to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Healthy Spaces certification Standards.

For over 40 years SINAK has been pioneering the latest technologies to replace outdated methods of concrete installation. $2.4 billion a year is spent remediating moisture vapor related failures throughout the construction industry. Our vision is to drive change through innovation while maintaining the highest levels of sustainability from both a life expectancy and environmental consideration. With SINAK you will never have a reason to remediate again.
